Science Plan

The Science Plan should reinforce RTD capacity by identifying the needs for and setting up a Science Plan, necessary for an adequate knowledge of the state and functioning of the system. Requirements for monitoring and forecasting the impact of Global change and anthropogenic activity were included, with an interactive response to long-term and crisis management requirements as well as a detailed plan for environmental monitoring and forecasting, enabling the sustainable management of the region’s natural resources.

The Science Plan includes the following aspects:

• Identification of the major thematic areas
• Identification of the main scientific partners within each thematic area
• The importance of public awareness on main sustainability issues
• Dissemination to the wider scientific and policy community
• Involvement of young students and scientists in the overall process
