Work package leader: Prof. L.Mee,email: lmee@plymouth.ac.uk

Deliverables
D5.1: Comparative analysis of state and international marine and coastal environmental policy principles in the region.
D5.2: Assessment of the projected socio-economic impact of the various hazards and threats on the stability/sustainability of the system (with input from D2.3, D3.3, D4.3).
D5.3: Assessment of the ability to develop dependable socio-economic projections for the coastal zone.

The major objective of this Work Package is to identify and assess policies and intervention tools on the coastal and marine environment in the Mediterranean and Black Sea system. Both scientific developments and political changes in the countries of the region have had significant impacts on management policies regarding irrigation, agriculture, forestry, marine resource and coastal management. Identification of the various diverging policies and policy tools, their effectiveness and consequences on the ecosystem and on the economies, is of prime importance in this project. This Work Package assessed and prioritised the potential hazards and threats to the environmental state, stability and resources of the Mediterranean and Black Sea system as well as to set the stage for the development of orchestrated policies directed to healing environmental damage and ensuring sustainability of the ecosystem and marine resources.
