Review of Living resources – fish stocks and fisheries (Task 3.1)

The objective of the task, to review existing information on living resources, includes fisheries landings, fishing effort, economic performance of fisheries, as well as an assessment of the scale of the anthropogenic impact.

Background and Rationale

This task has distilled available information on fisheries landings, fishing effort as well as on the economic performance of the fisheries. Within this framework, a preliminary analysis of available data has been made in order to identify the human impact on the ecosystems studied (e.g. fishing down marine food webs). The evaluation of such information will be used for a future build up of ecological models indicating the health status of the concerned ecosystems as well as of the resources embedded in these ecosystems.

Based on the above, this task has identified the missing information in the two basins and suggests the way forward to accomplish and use such information.
